The Virginia Living Museum has Common Milkweed and butterflyweed scattered throughout the grounds as well as in dedicated beds in our Children's Learning Garden. Monarch Watch selected the VLM as the 1st Virginia Beta testing site for their temperature monitoring research in 2006. Two thermochron sensors are currently monitoring temperatures 0.5 and 1.5 meters above the soil in our Children's Learning Garden. VLM has been rearing and releasing monarchs since the late 1980s and has been displaying, rearing and tagging fall monarchs through Monarch Watch since 1996. VLM is proud to be Monarch Waystation #299, certified in 2005.
