Spotted lone loon near shoreline wing dam about mid afternoon where U.S. 169 crosses the Minnesota River just downstream from the highway bridge as we were were passing by in airport bus from Mankato. Assuming this sojourner was waiting word on the loon telegraph that his lake was open in No. Minn. MODIS satellite today (monday) still shows most lakes north of Twin Cities still ice locked -- though Lake Superior seems to be breaking up nicely.
