Number: 1

Sandhills stopping in swampy inlet of tiny Fish Lake noted by local resident Gen Roessler near southern edge of what used to be known as The Big Woods. This small but deep lake is a rare example of a small deep lake this far south maintaining native wild rice, two colors of water lilies and bullfrogs amid birch trees and rolling glacial hills. Fish is near the top of the Cannon River watershed, draining into the Mississippi.
