This was a lovely spring day that started with low-lying fog bringing a nice moisture to the pastures & woods. It was partly cloudy in the morning, and I was out checking the milkweed, when I saw a monarch female begin to fly from flower to flower sipping their nectar. The fields are abundant with wildflowers of many varieties. The ones she chose were the lavender Texas Verbain, the Texas Yellow Star, and the Texas Dandelion (the last two are both of the Sunflower family). I was able to take quite a few photos of her from a short distance. It gave me much joy to see her! She was clearly a long-journeyed monarch given the condition of her faded and tattered wings. Such an honor to have her visit and to take sustenance from the flowers in our fields. This photo is of her nectaring on a Texas Yellow Star.
