Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 04/22/2014

Number: 1

Pasture still very monarch active 4/22/14

The pasture had a hard half inch of rain last week and looks
in good shape although it is just a bit of surface moisture.
There is blooming A. asperula all over the pasture, some young
and others very mature. Some the plants with the first blooms
are putting on seed pods about 3/4ths of an inch long while some
of the new sprouts are just putting on the first blooms.

Yesterday we saw eleven monarchs passing thru the pasture, around
and just south of our RV. Two definitely had more color than those we
have been seeing the past month. Today, by 2 pm we had seen thirteen
monarchs ... at 11 am we were out in the ecart and were pointing to
three monarchs at the same time, trying to keep up with all three.
We were close to one about noon, was very, very faded ... we were
thinking this was late for very faded remigrants but we've caught
and photo' some in years before. One this morning had more color than
the others. We could be getting to see some of the generation one
monarchs about now so no big surprise.

The bluebonnets and asperula are starting to put on healthy looking
seed pods ...

Light N breeze today and 86 after SE @ 25 yesterday ... windshift came
during the night ... beautiful day in south central Texas ... someone
else got our two inches of rain, now we need four, slowly ...
