I could not tell if it was a male or female, since I could only see it from the backside while at the feeder. I put the feeders out one week ago. I had the feeders out last season (our first season here), and had hummingbirds all season long. The feeders are located at the side of our home, right on the edge of thick woods that are uninhabited.
