My parents and I were on a hike up on Roan Mountain at picnic shelter 1 when we saw a monarch that lighted on the trail in front of us. The monarch was ratty and faded and I think that the monarch was from an overwintering site somewhere. The monarch was flying southeast as it left the trail.
