Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/03/2014

Number: 1

I was hoping the little guy would stay and stake out a territory in my yard, but he left after about a week. The yard has a lot of traffic from other birds because I kept a bird feeder stocked with sunflower seeds all winter. All those birds attracted some neighborhood cats. I hope he just found a place he likes better and his departure wasn't due to one of the cats. I changed the nectar from turbinado sugar to regular table sugar (which changed the nectar from light yellow to clear) around the same time he left. The last time I saw him he was hovering near one of the feeders staring at the clear nectar through the clear plastic bottom of the feeder. More and more of my flowers are starting to bloom, so maybe I'll get another hummer or two this summer.
