Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/27/2014

Number: 1

I was outside this Sunday morning hoping to see a monarch or two. It was overcast, about 78 degrees F, with a strong wind blowing continuously. As I was about to go inside thinking it was just too windy, a monarch flew right past me, landed on a lavender flower, and began to nectar. Well ... I had put my camera away and by the time I had it out, he was off with the wind. I hurried after him hoping to get a picture. Luckily, he had taken a fancy to the nectar of those particular flowers called Self-Heal (Prunella vulgaris) and went from one stand of them to the next. He also rested at one point in the grass for about five minutes, seeming to escape the strong wind. His beauty and the beauty of the flowers seem a perfect match!
