Here is a photo of the little character that the bright-winged female monarch was so curious about! She had spent minutes fluttering & landing on this milkweed. I had thought she was egg-laying, but there were no eggs, just this plump colorful fellow. He is a 30mm 5th instar who has cutely drooped his front tentacles and gone still because I disturbed him. I don't know which of us was more surprised!
