All Other Signs of Spring

We noted a pair of Northern Flickers (members of the woodpecker family) on our neighbor's back lawn this afternoon. It's been raining for the last 24 hours (2 plus inches) and the temperatures were 8 C / 42-44 F, but this didn't seem to bother them. The female found and was dipping her beak repeatedly into a 'sweet spot' in the lawn, when Mr Flicker noticed this and came over to her. They puffed up their breasts and knocked beaks several times, but she gave in and moved off to find another cache. A behavior I've not seen before.
