Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/01/2014

Number: 1

This is my 6th season to have large tubs of tropical milkweed in my sheltered back patio. Each spring I anticipate the monarchs' arrival; and because they are scattered widely, I usually only see 5-7 monarchs each spring, but when we search the native milkweed we find MANY eggs and larvae, both in the pastures and on my backyard plants. But I thought it important to report that, although I was 7 monarchs this spring and several roosted over nightin the trees in back, I did not see a single female ovipositing, nor even find any single egg on my curassavica plants. I did not get to bring in any larvae to rear this spring! Now I'll have to wait until the fall!
