I just had my first visitor of the 2014 Season today, Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 7:28PM.
A Male Ruby-throated, was guzzling away at one of my little feeders until he caught on that I was making a grab for my camera and took off in a blink.
I thought I saw a hummer on April 28, 2014 at 3:46PM, at first I was pretty sure it was just my eyes playing tricks on me, but having seen the same silhouette tonight, I'm rethinking my classification of the event as simply being a symptom of hummer-withdrawl.
I have 3 small feeders out, but there's nothing blooming out in the yard beyond some White Hyacinth. My Bleeding Heart is closest with a handful of buds forming. My two Oneil Red-horsechestnuts are a week or two from blooming but the buds are 1"-2" tall so far. And my Trumpet Honeysuckles are leafing out, but are far from putting buds on yet.
Off to watch for his return!
Have a great season! ~Nate.
