First sighting today of female rufous at a feeder busy with rufous males and both male-female calliopes. Female rufous at this location in the south-central Okanagan valley, non-coastal BC was approx. one week behind first appearance of males. Interesting that rufous appear here in central BC more than a month behind rufous migrating along the Pacific coastal flyway as far north as Alaska. Longitude distance from the coast to here is about 250 miles, crossing a mountain range. Wonder if black-chinned or Anna's hummers make it to central BC valleys?
