Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/04/2014

Number: 1

I saw one Monarch Sunday afternoon at Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge, Washington County, MS. It was feeding or at least at some Smooth Vetch, Vicia villosa that was growing along a dam over Alligator Pond, at that refuge, I was walking the dam. I was right by it when I spotted it but could not tell what it was collecting if anything, it was also moving pretty fast and was soon out of sight. No milkweed at this place but might be some a bit away from here like at Deer Lake where there is more grasses but I did not look to see if I could see any because I do not remember seeing any and I have been coming to this place about ten years of so. I put about 400 miles on my truck Sunday and only saw that one species example, no others flying.
