Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/06/2014

Number: 1

i currently have 7 milkweeds and about 20 caterpillars (seem healthy, no signs of OE) and two consistent mating monarchs in my yard. the female may be an OE carrier. i haven't captured her to look at her abdomen closely yet. but she is laying a lot of eggs on my milkweeds so i am in trouble if she is... i say this because i have many chrysalis this past week that have either turned black/brown with dead babies inside, or had sick OE infested monarchs come out of them. very very sad about this. many fell from their chrysalises and many, if not all, had wrinkled wings and ugly grey abdomens with no deep dark black and white stripes on them. (mottled looking grayish skinny abdomens are a sign of the OE infection.) they also are weak and they cannot fly well due to wrinkled wings.
im unsure what to do at this point. i did witness one today that wasnt too sick to fly away healthily. but i am betting all of mine are OE infested. i see that 70% here in FL are infested? what can i do then? if i kill them all then i have none.

if anyone has any suggestions how to cure this problem I'm having, would love to hear!
