Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/07/2014

Number: 1

Like clockwork--1st male arrived 6:50 PM, overcast and rain today, 49 degrees, winds 13 MPH. Five feeders have been available, since April 26th when sightings were reported in our area via Lanny Chambers. Our nectar did not go to waste and has been replenished frequently, as some of our young squirrels, and woodpeckers like to steal a sip or two. All feeders have 8 foot high tomato poles with red flags flying nearby for ease of visual location; our Shepard hooks have small branches attached so it is covenient to perch and rest. Our 1st male is visiting the feeder located on the West side of the house every 15 minutes and resting on the branches attached to the Shepard hook. Welcome home little guys--this is our 21st year of hosting hummingbirds--we are thrilled to host your friends, relatives, spouses, and families during 2014.
