Robin (Nesting Behavior)
Sightings report image

Date: 05/05/2014

Number: 2

On 05/04/14 my husband and I put up some hanging planters on our front porch. On 05/05 I noticed a Robin had already started building a nest in one of them! She has been very busy adding to it daily with whatever she can find. (Our home is in an area with very few trees and bushes- mostly high plains vegetation.) She has added tumbleweed, twigs, even some paper shreds to her nest. She seems to disappear during the day but it's always back around dusk. Because it is so dry (and seemingly inhospitable to a bird like a Robin) here, we plan to provide her with fresh water and food to make her job a little easier. And because we can easily observe her from our windows, we're excited to show our daughter the habits of birds and America's sweetheart, the Robin!
