Number: 1

Flying around new milkweed that is 10-15 inches above ground and first leaves showing.

I am sure that it was a Monarch and, in fact, there were two more yesterday flying and landing on my foot high milkweed. I have several patches of milkweed that we cultivate in the yard over about an acre of open space.

I also know that several Monarchs have been reported to Mass Audubon last week.

The mourning cloaks have been out for over 6 weeks eating something on my gravel driveway as well as the comma and painted lady and several observations of a small white butterfly flying in tandem swirling up in a column.

Here are pictures of the Monarch eggs and some scat from a caterpillar, though I couldn't find the larvae, you can see the eaten leaves.
