Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/14/2014

Number: 1

It was before I had soccer practice at the Waverly soccer complex. I saw the monarch and knew I had to report it. It was flying mostly southeast when I saw it. It was flying towards vegetation probably in search of food.

After reviewing the images, Andrew is still sure that what he saw was a monarch, but understands the necessity to confirm unusual sightings.

My colleague, Paul Mugan, was leading students on an entomology field trip this morning (5/20) and reported a monarch. He is an experienced biology teacher who maintains an extensive insect collection, so it's a reliable report. In addition, another student, an avid hunter, reported to me that he saw a monarch this past weekend (5/17). We may be seeing the first wave!
