Seven 5th instar monarch caterpillars were sighted in the Sierra foothills on May 17 about 50 miles east of Sacramento, California on Asclepias cordifolia milkweed plants that were growing in a small oak and pine tree filled meadow at 2,084 feet elevation roughly 50 miles east of Sacramento, Calif. near the intersection of Omo Ranch Rd and Mt.Aukum Rd south of the town of Somerset, Calif.
