Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 05/20/2014

Number: 1

With the exception of some tulips, no flowers are in bloom in my area yet. The Ruby-throated is feeding from a red tulip and the feeder, but goes to tulip first. Usually our pea tree is its favourite feeding spot, especially the yellow blossoms on the pea tree, but the pea tree is only in the early budding stage here this year - long and harsh winter and cold spring for the most part. When the hummer first arrived and noticed my potted geraniums though the open window, it seemed about to come in so I quickly closed the window fearful it would come in and get disoriented. I then moved the geraniums away from the window and even put one outside for the hummer despite the fact that it was still very cold out when it first arrived. The geranium did not seem too happy so I eventually brought it in. This is the first year I purchased a feeder for the hummingbirds. Usually I have enough in bloom for them, but not this year.
