On Mar. 14 on DesertLeps Leps Ken Davenport, a highly experienced lepidopterist wrote: " While some Monarch Butterflies usually overwinter in Bakersfield, yesterday (March 13th) was the first day of the year I observed them in Bakersfield in 2014.  One was in my yard in mid- AM and several others would be seen in a Park in the Children's Center where I work in the afternoon."
