A brightly colored new generation female monarch was seen laying eggs on Asclepias speciosa milkweed that was growing along a farm irrigation water ditch adjacent to an alfalfa field and Pinenut Rd. in Gardnerville, Nevada. There was also a brightly colored male monarch patrolling this same milkweed. These milkweed plants were only 3-12 inches tall and not yet in flower. Here is a 1 1/2 minute video showing the female laying eggs and then the male patrolling.
