I recall earlier this spring you were collecting information on milkweed populations.
I have noticed in the last few weeks a great deal of the type Spider milkweed or Antelope horns showing up in many places. From what I have read it is a low growing and spreading form which is what I am seeing. I have seen it in ditches, hay fields, and pastures. I have never seen this type of milkweed in such quantities before. We had a very dry spring and some rain of late. This may have contributed to this population increase. If I understand right this milkweed prefers drier areas.
The last 3 years have been drier than usual over a large area. The late rains have given other type of milkweed a boost also. I have seen monarchs feeding on this milkweed. Has anyone else reported this type of milkweed?
