I saw my first monarch of the season at 4:00 while running on the bike trail in town. The monarch was patrolling a flowering tree looking for a mate. I assume it was a male. 20 minutes later on the way back I stopped and watched him for a few minutes swoop in and out of the tree. The temperature was 86 degrees with calm winds.
