Very fresh, healthy-looking female monarch in nondirectional flight along trail by Nature Center today. Lat. N42.42103. Did not see egg-laying or observe eggs on the plants I checked. Also observed a skipper but could not ID to species.

Abundant common milkweed, some whorled milkweed.

A number of nectar flowers in bloom: Phlox pilosa, Lithospermum canescens, L. incisum (Hoary puccoon, Fringed puccoon), Arabis lyrata (sand cress), Sisyrinchium albidum (Common Blue-eyed grass, actually an Iris relative), Hypoxis hirsuta (Yellow star grass). Also abundant: Lupinus perennis in large patches in moist sandy depressions.
