Monarch in South Dakota

Today, while scanning the sky with binoculars, we spotted an eagle soaring so high, it was barely visible to the naked eye. Then much to our surprise, a soaring monarch appeared in the same binocular view. We watched it head due north. Location was near Cedar Pass in Badlands National Park.
