Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/31/2014

Number: 1

On Saturday my wife and I stopped along a dirt road to check some milkweed since we had seen a couple of monarch butterflies earlier in the day. We found lots of eggs and new born caterpillars. So, even though we are not seeing lots of monarchs, they are obviously passing through and laying eggs on milkweed. Since it takes about 4 days for the egg to hatch, the eggs that had already hatched must have been deposited around the 25th or 27th. This is a good sign for a comeback since last year was so poor.
