Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 06/05/2014

Number: 1

Over the course of the last week I saw caterpillars on my milkweed in the native plantings near our house. As I was trying to keep tabs on them from day to day they would disappear and not be seen again. Apparently something tried to eat one last night and left part of it. I had never seen that before. In my hayfield area I also found a few caterpillars that were not seen the next day. We had storms Wednesday morning. Thursday evening I went to check the wild milkweed and found a number of caterpillars of various sizes. Seeing how the attrition rate seems to be high I collected about 7 caterpillars and brought them in. I will raise them in a repurposed aquarium.
