Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/12/2014

Number: 1

First instar on garden milkweed, at least 2 per, plant 6 plants. The females observed have been deeply colored, crisp and small. In past years I have seen larger, but faded and ragged butterflies that must come all the way from Mexico. Another note, my blooming lilac has had at least a dozen butterflies feeding on the flowers in past years. Last year (2013) none, this year, one or two at a time.
