Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/13/2014

Number: 1

Small monarch caterpillar - 1st instar stage. On a violet leaf. Lots of asclepius tuberosa nearby, but this one's on a violet and we're set for lots of rain in the next 2 days.

There are 4 of them, and they are monarch caterpillars. I brought the one on the violet in - on a milkweed, and it seems happier. One of the others *was* on a milkweed when I first saw it, and now is on a violet. I don't get it! they are not eating on the violet leaf, just sitting there. ?
