Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/12/2014

Number: 1

We saw one monarch that seemed to be behaving as if it was a fall migrant at 8:10PM on 12 June  2014. So far there are no immature monarchs (as of June 19).  Our syriaca are gorgeous and healthy and in full bloom.

By behaving like a fall migrant, I mean that the lone migrant fluttered up -- maybe 25 feet -- into the tip leaves of a side branch of a tree and checked it out. It flew up again several times doing the same thing and then finally settled.  Fall clustering butterflies perform this behavior individually as they zero in on other clustering monarchs.
