Patti Ensor reported the following:
Just spent the last ten minutes here at the farmstead trying to net my first monarch of 2014! It is breezy, 72 degrees F. It is flying back and forth, back and forth, along my 300' flower bed. Usually the maltese cross, knautia macedonica, dianthus, or sweet rocket would be an enticement to land, but no landings while I've been observing.
