Small but healthy looking butterfly not far from my home. A few milkweed plants, not yet flowering, in the vicinity.

It may have been a Red Admiral. It had a lot of black on its wings.
No signs of eggs on milkweed which is rather plentiful in my part of, get this, downtown Toronto. There are many ravines and we back on to the largest of them. We planted a lot on our condo grounds and people in the older houses around us have allowed it to grown in their perennial gardens and lane ways. I keep a close eye. There are the signs of green flower buds just now popping up.
