I have been diligently checking for eggs with no luck. We maintain milkweed just for the Monarchs and you should know the milkweed flowers have yet to bloom here although many of our plants are well over three feet now ; most are heavy buds that do not seem to be getting enough water to bloom. I only noticed this year because my Peony’s are struggling with a similar fate (lack of watered causing stem to collapse and Blooms to hit the ground)

Also, last year was the first year my milkweed crop was decimated by “milkweed tussock caterpillars.” In a matter of day’s plants were reduced to stalks! (I have attached photos) Any thoughts on whether or not I should ‘intervene’ in favor of the Monarch and if so, any advice on what I should do?

Finally, I am 85% confident I saw a Monarch Butterfly on Tuesday, June 17th at Clough State Park. My confidence is due to having just seen is based on a Viceroys that landed within a few feet of the same wildflowers where I saw the Monarch - it was bigger and flew differently…floppier as stated by my 12 year old son.
We will keep you posted as this is very important to my 12 year old son as well as myself.
