In my first four weeks of weekly transect butterfly counts at two prairies near Omaha in eastern Nebraska, I have seen a total of 9 monarchs. 6 of them were seen this Wednesday (June 25). I also saw 5 at two prairies near Lincoln yesterday. I interpret this as the first locally-developed generation having emerged as adults. Last year by this time I had seen 8.
