Update on state of monarchs and stages of development:
I still haven't seen any new monarchs.........hoping that by the end of the week I will have good news.
The good news I do have is that the milkweed continues healthy and that I am finding eggs (some on flower buds) and first instar caterpillars........even as I am awaiting the first emerging monarchs.
New eggs at this stage would likely mature around the middle of August. That could mean they may be migrants or try to breed one last generation of monarchs by the end of September.......always risky for northern Wisconsin, but wonderful if all of the forces come together.
I will report in a few days on whatever hatch we get here in the wild.
