Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 07/03/2014

Number: 4

I continue to see adult Monarchs at home, on the golf course, and other area of S.E. Houston. We normally do not see adults in June, July, and August. The wasps decimate the eggs and larvae. On a happy note, Bay Oaks Country Club just put in a small butterfly garden and will put a larger one in in the fall.

What species of milkweed? Definitely Asclepias curassavica in my yard as well as at the club in both orange and yellow. I also have a blue vine milkweed and one from Florida that I can't find the names to. Garden clubs are trying to get as many people as possible to put butterfly weed in their yards. I am currently cultivating the plants as the seed pods ripen to give the plants away.
