One 3rd instar monarch butterfly caterpillar was observed about 2 miles west of Markleeville, Calif. June 30, 2014 on a Asclepias speciosa milkweed plant that was along Hot Springs Rd. Elevation 5,680 feet Lat: 38.691102 Long: -119.807221
in the Jeffrey Pine forest just east of the crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. Two minute video:
