Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 07/03/2014

Number: 50

The first female Monarch butterfly arrived on May 1st. Since then, the population of Monarchs has exploded. I raised in my kitchen 48 butterflies and set them loose in the yards. I don't know how many more chrysalids/butterflies eclosed outside, but I would guess at least as many as I had in my kitchen.
We now have mating butterflies, new eggs, and a ravenous group of caterpillars on all of our milkweed plants. It's like a Disneyland decorated scene with all of them floating along, sipping nectar, swirling together on a breeze. Mating pairs are easy to find.
