Saw my first monarch of the year today. Couldn't get close enough to tell for sure but I think it was a male, based on the fact that it appeared to be patrolling the milkweed patches and didn't lay any eggs. He nectared on the common milkweed, but didn't go to any other flowers. Poor thing was getting blown around by some pretty gusty winds!
