Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 07/04/2014

Number: 1

First report from a sunny boulevard garden on a busy urban street in southwest Minneapolis! I have over 25+ volunteer milkweed plants in full bloom waiting for our monarch friends. Last Thursday I saw a medium/smallish caterpillar munching on one of the plant leaves!! YEAH!! However....when I went back to take a photo...nothing...its been several days since and I have not seen stripe nor wiggle so I am hoping they've found a safe place to continue eating and growing. (The garden vegetation is pretty dense and tall.) Although I've not seen an adult monarch, I see this as GREAT news as I typically don't see adults until almost August. Ever on the lookout...!
