It is July 10th in Hackensack NJ and the schoolyard Butterfly Garden has had only a few butterfly visitors. In years past I used the last few days of school to teach my students the species that appeared early like painted ladies, red admirals and white cabbage wings. That was not the case this year. It seems all butterfly populations have drastically dwindled and I feel I am really witnessing a modern day mass extinction!!! I haven't seen a single Monarch and have not collected a single egg from either my home garden or the one at the Hackensack Middle School. All I have at this time are memories of raising "cats" in summers past! I am heartbroken! Will keep you posted!
