Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 07/16/2014

Number: 1

For the second time in 14 years at this location, a July Monarch. Other was several years ago. Last previous Monarch seen this year was May 28 when I saw four Gen 1 at the beginning of several days of north wind. Timing could make this one either Gen 2 or Gen 3, but Gen 2 seems more likely because both April and May temps were well below average, which means longer generation times. The picture is a bit blurry but adequate for id. It's on a buttonbush a small tree round flowers that produce a lot of nectar. The Monarch flew before I could get a clearer shot. Went about 50 yards north up the bottom of the creek into a butttonbush thicket. By that time was taking cover for an approaching rain storm and I could not flush it again.
