Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 07/19/2014

Number: 4

First. Monarchs seen this year. Two at once in a patch of milkweed. Not able to identify m/f. Later in same patch a single male. While walking observed the fourth along the roadside ( a few milkweeds downhill). 69 degrees at noon. Overcast to patchy sun. Light south southwestern breeze. Milkweed patch well frequented by other butterflies as well. Observed Great Spangled Fritillaries, Painted Ladies, what looked like a black swallowtail but no tails, not sure of that one, and a banded Purple as well as numerous bees. Milkweed in full bloom. Several patches of milkweed in the area, but the one on the hillside in the sun was THE place to be.
