Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/17/2014

Number: 1

Saw a single monarch on the butterfly bushes today (7/18/14). Perhaps it was the same one seen yesterday (7/17/14), which was the first sighting of the season. Since I am at the eastern end of Long Island it usually takes awhile for the monarchs to reach me in July. As A rough guide, usually when the butterfly bushes bloom, they show up. I keep track every year of my first sighting, so this year fits in with otHer years. Was a little worried because of the decline in the population that this year might be different. So far so good. Am also raising 10 monarch caterpillars to help out.
