We went into the field checking the milkweed. We saw a single Monarch flying west.
This year seems to be much better than last year. Last year we saw zero (and we do watch for them because we have been raising them for several years now).
We were up in Alpena, Michigan, a week or two ago and saw them off and on along the shore of Lake Michigan. We found those four large larvae on a single plant at our hotel (that we reported and corresponded about actually). Those four are in chrysalis stage right now.
We saw another one about a week ago that flew past us as we were walking into a movie theatre in Waterford, Michigan. We reported that one too.
This one we saw in the fields behind our house yesterday when we went out checking milkweed. I will say the milkweed didn't look eaten. We went back out in the evening to check for larvae coming up to eat and saw nothing on the plants.
I saw two monarchs today while I was driving. I couldn't obviously get a photo. However, I can tell them by the color and flight anymore and I know they were monarchs.
Way better than last year in our area anyway.
