While conducting a North American Butterfly Associate Butterfly Count along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Milepost 6, Virginia Living Museum staff and trip participants sighted 2 monarch butterflies at the Humpback Rocks Trailhead, 37.57.882N, 78.53.599W. This is the museum's 22nd annual NABA count for this and 3 other sites. The weather was cool and the rest of the day became overcast, it was a low count overall. There were few signs of any feeding on the abundant common milkweeds present. No monarch caterpillars or eggs were seen, but the search was not diligent. The time submitted was the time we spent total at this particular site.
