Again I checked along the roadside in the recently mowed areas where the milkweed was reemerging. I found 5 first instar caterpillars. It has been very windy and the caterpillars were all tucked into the top of the milkweed plant between the newest leaves. They did not fall out when I picked the plants or while I was driving home. Who knew windy days were so good for finding the critters.
